Venice is internationally known as the stuff of stories and a tourist magnet, but above all for the fact that it is always overflowing - with water and people. And of course for the beautiful canals, gondolas and the Venetian carnival. But Venice is so much more than that. If you're not visiting for Carnival, the Biennale (there are unique museums in the associated art district that are open all year round) or other major events, you can soak up some sun in the winter months, for example, and let yourself drift and be inspired in the confusing labyrinth of alleyways. This is a particular pleasure for artists and creatives, as there is something to discover on every corner. So be sure to explore Venice on foot, even if you can take a water cab in between - that's fun too.
For followyoursun, the city means a lot, because we have always visited it at so-called “crossroads”, where it was about choosing your own path of the heart and not being deceived by the inner voices that want to lead you away from your true self.
Our favorite places in Venice are:
The “Mercato di Rialto Pesceria” fish market (for those who like to cook for themselves)
The “Collezione Peggy Guggenheim” (great little gallery with great exhibits)
A trip to the island of Burano (you can also make a detour to Murano, where the famous glass is made; the bright colors of the houses on the islands are stunningly beautiful)
The Cannaretto/Jewish quarter with its unique history (pejoratively referred to as the ghetto, the name unfortunately remains) and its special flair
A walk along the Lido with its public beach “Murazzi”
