The magic of new beginnings: Savinja Valley

Even if every day, every moment, every second is different from the last, the beginning of the year is a magical moment because it shows us what we have already achieved and what heights we want to reach again. What could your personal adventure trip look like this year?

How could you bring out your true self more?

We spent our New Year in the mountains in Slovenia this year and were greeted by our wonderful hosts with sparkling wine, chocolate and panettone (the traditional Christmas cake in Italy) right at the beginning. The hospitality, generosity and openness in Slovenia is remarkable, we have felt at home everywhere so far.

The Savinja Valley is a special insider tip, because many international vacationers tend to head to the Triglav National Park or the sea and only a few plan a stopover there.

Our favorite places on the Savinja River (winter & summer):

• Logarska Dolina: a beautiful national park with great hiking and mountain biking opportunities as well as quality accommodation and dining options.

• Golte: Here you can take the gondola to the top of the ski area and spend the night at the valley station in the associated Wellness Hotel Monti with an amazing view (a very special experience for children to have breakfast next to the gondolas, great adventure playground and adventure park for older children) - there will be a separate article about this.

• In Savina, opposite the campsite, there are great swimming opportunities in the river and you can swim in the small waterfalls and refresh yourself in summer (in the low season the river is too cold for many). But beware: If you are afraid of snakes, you should skip this nature experience, we got out of the water just in time :)...

• Slovenia not only has great private accommodation and hotels, but also first-class campsites. As many owners are very skilled in woodwork, there are also great forest chalets with personal charm (for the summer season). Our little one would say: “Slovenia gets 5 stars out of 5!”.

• Our absolute highlight on New Year's Eve was the flower garden in Mozirje (Mozirski gaj), which is decorated with Christmas lights and really delightful stations in winter - an incredibly worthwhile and, above all, inexpensive leisure option for children.
