Croatia is definitely one of our favorite destinations, as it is easily accessible from Central Europe by electric car and you don't need too many stops with the new fast charging options. We have had close ties with the BKS countries for many years (including Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia), not only privately, but also through post-war projects to promote integration and intercultural peace (e.g. for marginalized groups such as people with special needs).
Even if the road to complete peace is certainly still a long one, it can be observed, especially in Croatia, how local sustainable tourism creates income opportunities in difficult economic conditions and cultural exchange (you are almost always invited to celebrations when you stay with families, the community spirit is very strong and it is a tradition that there is always food when you arrive at a vacation accommodation).
Catholicism is still very much anchored in Croatia, but at the same time there is also a great curiosity towards other spiritual directions, which can also be seen in the design of the churches as well as, for example, the popular geomantism originating from Celtic customs (here certain places on the earth are seen as sacred and endowed with a special vibration).
Interestingly, it was precisely the religious component that was emphasized as the trigger for the war in Yugoslavia in 1992, while in fact there was a complex network of political, cultural and above all corrupt entanglements that made chaos and warmongering possible. There are many parallels here with the Ukrainian war, which is also based on ideology (the collapse of the USSR & the imperialists' desire to restore “Mother Russia” / maintain a nationalist system of power). In the history of mankind, all great powers have collapsed and with their fall have opened up new paths, especially for travel, as this is how certain countries became accessible. This not only creates exchange, but also lasting peace, which can also be felt on the island of Krk (where there is a newly created Way of St. James around the entire island, which can be walked in 7 days - particularly beautiful sections are the path through the beautiful old town of Krk with the impressive Franciscan monastery, the Paradise Path, the wine town of Vrbnik with the “narrowest alley in the world” and the breathtaking coastal path from Baska to Stara Baska).
The most dangerous of all worldviews is the worldview of people who have not seen the world. Alexander von Humboldt
